WELCOME

My name is Bertram deBono and I race pigeons inpartnership with my father (Carmel deBono).  I started pigeon racing when I was eleven years old in 1990.   At that time a friend of mine who was a hunter found this injured pigeon and decided to give it to me.  From that day onwards a flame was ignited which affected my father and all my family.  And now I can't see my life without the pigeons.  All my first pigeons were given to me  by friends and some turned out to be real supers.

In Malta there are 24 clubs with about 1300 pigeon fanciers, unfortunately the number has been reducing every year.  I race with the Mosta club which is centrally located and has 56 pigeon fanciers sending an average of about 400 pigeons.  In Malta we have a 10 bird limit, so only 10 can compete for the race although you can send as many as you want but only for tossing.  In Malta we don't have the velocity system so first in the clock is what we practice.

The size of Malta makes all this possible.  Below I have included a map of Malta and our neighbouring countries including Sicily and Italy.  All our races are channel races so it's not easy racing that's for sure.

Yours in sport
